LOVE YOUR ENEMIES (1st part)

love enemies

It is truly appalling, almost unfathomable when I hear adherent Church going, spirit-filled, tongue speaking Christians show this morbid hatred for conceived enemies, especially, the evil minded people of witchcraft. The leadership of most ecumenical assemblage have structured the laity for a certain ‘Christian Jihad Movement’ against fellow human beings. The Bible does not even allow you to be too angry with other people, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” [Ephesians 4:26].

The grouse is, “If I do not strike the enemy down first he will grow in a more destructive strength of wickedness against me”. They will go on a marathon fasting and prayer days of, “My enemies die! The man or woman standing or sitting upon my promotion, die! The enemy in my maternal or paternal family, I come against you, die, in the name of Jesus!” In a popped, wide eyed anger, some will even say, “I want this current government of this nation of ours to fail,” still praying in Jesus’ mighty name. They fail to see the contents of 1Timothy 2:1-2, “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; (2) For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty”.

I know what Jesus admonished in Matthew 5:44, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” ‘Love’, as it comes out in this verse is: agapaō (ag-ap-ah’-o): Perhaps from ἄγαν agan (much) ‘to love (in a social or moral sense)’; [it is the verb form of agapē (ag-ah’-pay): ‘love feast’, which is compared with ‛agab (aw-gab’) to breathe after, that is, to love (sensually)].’

‘Enemy’, from the verse, an adjective, is echthros (ech-thros’) and means: ‘hateful (passively odious, or actively hostile); usually as a noun, an adversary (especially Satan)’. The enemy Jesus is pointing out here and teaching us to agapaō is a fellow human being who is bent on wrecking your life. ‘Bless’, in Greek is: eulogeō (yoo-log-eh’-o) ‘to speak well of, that is, (religiously) to bless (thank or invoke a benediction upon, prosper)’. The word ‘curse’ is kataraomai (kat-ar-ah’-om-ahee): ‘imprecate evil upon; to execrate; by analogy to doom’. The verbal ‘do’, poieō (poy-eh’-o) is: ‘to make’; while a modifying ‘good’, kalōs (kal-oce’): (an adverb) means, ‘well (usually morally)’. ‘Hate’, which comes from the root misos (hatred), is: miseō (mis-eh’-o): ‘to hate, pursue with hatred, detest’. Proseuchomai (pros-yoo’-khom-ahee) is the Greek for ‘pray’, which is, ‘to offer prayers; supplicate God’. ‘Despitefully use’ is epēreazō (ep-ay-reh-ad’-zo): ‘to insult, to treat abusively, to revile, in a forensic sense, to accuse falsely; to threaten; slander’; while the word ‘persecute’ is diōkō (dee-o’-ko) ‘to make to run or flee, put to flight, drive away, pursue’.

You either believe Jesus and His word or reject His divine didacticism! Period!

A member of a church called Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministry defended their imprecatory prayer of “Let my enemy die” with this resultant experience. “We prayed for an elimination of senior staff of our church member, who was constantly ruling against her promotion. After two weeks the offending boss died and our sister got her overdue promotion”. She looked at me and asked, “What about that?” I began by reminding the lady that they had gone on a spiritual excursion which was diametrically opposed to the express teaching of our Lord Jesus. Second, they have decided to rely totally on experience to explain away the scriptures; forgetting that Satan is so adroit in concocting phenomenal encounters. Number 3 is that it runs contrary to Romans 12:20, “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.” You have arrogated judicial jurisdiction of Divinity to yourself equaling the Satanic desire that earned him a celestial castaway. The Lord your God expects you keep your moral part of the spiritual bargain.

Another Christian of the Christ Apostolic Church denomination, in a very touchy voice and grave mien, did not want me to forget in a hurry that the ones we are discussing here are the very cruel witches whose determination is to destroy absolutely! He was shaking involuntarily as he poured forth his heart, “These people, when they are plotting their evil machinations against you they carry out their concoctions behind you!” I made it clear that I understood where he was coming from. This is very true we should love our enemy no matter if our religious views are different. But I believe why we struggle in this area is because we truly don’t love ourselves.

Truly so, arm5, and this is exactly what I was telling a friend who still has an excuse to believe in sending imprecatory prayers to enemies, before I sent this post. People are naturally vindictive, so, a pastor who teaches this kind of a thing becomes the preacher of the truth. They may be sincere but, well, sincerely wrong they are! There’re two more parts to come. Hoping somebody will start living to please Jehovah Jesus. Thanks for your comment. I do appreciate. Stay blessed.

‘God guide me in my weakness’ is a prayer we all need. When it comes to loving our enemies, we all falter. It is easier said than done but if we intend to enter the kingdom of heaven, it is what must be done. However it is a conundrum because it only takes God’s grace for on to let GO and let GOD. This usurpation of God’s power and the taking over of God’s duty while forgetting ” Vengeance is mine” and the corollary that “When you are going through fire I will be with you” leads us to this pass of the “Fire burn them kind of prayer”.

Dear Femi, if we truly ‘fe’ (that’s Yoruba word for ‘love’) God we will always remember to do His will. There’s no temptation His word hadn’t prepared us for. I do agree with you that when it comes to praying favourably for our enemies, it’s a matter of: “God help us”. The fact that our Lord Jesus taught us to bless our enemies is more than enough to make us to be compliant. This is part one, part two is out and part three will conclude this topic. Thank you for stopping by and making a worthy contribution. Jesus is Lord.
