THE COMFORTER (four)
(…continues from part 3…)
4) The Comforter is expected to bring to remembrance what Jesus taught like no other teacher of the Word and one of the things He taught in the Sermon on the Mount is in Matthew 5:33-37 33) “Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: 34) But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: 35) Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. 36) Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. 37) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” Over six centuries later, this is Muhammadan Islamic teaching, quite contrary to the teaching of the very Word of God, found in Al-Ma’idah 5:107 “But if it is found that those two were guilty of sin [i.e., perjury], let two others stand in their place [who are] foremost [in claim] from those who have a lawful right. And let them swear by Allah, “Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed. Indeed, we would then be of the wrongdoers.” So, tell me, who should we believe, Muhammad of Allah or Jesus Christ, the very Word of God?
They were in the Upper Room, on the day of Pentecost.
This is what the promised Holy Spirit did when He, as it was promised, came down to the souls of regeneration; Acts 2:1-4 1) “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3) And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” This experience was never repeated to any one of these one hundred and twenty born again Christians; the Holy Spirit went into their spirits to take a divine residence there, never to vacate the heart He had, by His dwelling, made eternally righteous. As many get born again, the Holy Spirit dwells in them forever. Only God can exist in more than one place, not to mention the over one billion of possible Christians of the world, as displayed by the Holy Spirit. Inside how many can Muhammad take a residence?
The people of Christ’s address were His own following disciples, did anyone of them live to see Muhammad? The prophecy did come true ten days after the Lord’s ascension, on the day of Pentecost in sharp contrast to six centuries later of Muhammad’s entrance into Allah’s prophetic office. Acts 1:4-5 4) “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5) For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.” Most definitely, Muhammad could not have been the promise of ‘another Comforter’; he is too human, too detached from Christological facticity to measure up for the office the Comforter. This Comforter is scripturally the Third Member of the Godhead, being of the Divinity; is Muhammad the fourth member of the Godhead to possess the criterion of the Comforter? Is Jesus divine?
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us” (John 1:14)
John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The word ‘beginning’ is archē (ar-khay’): ‘origin, the extremity of a thing e.g. time.’ This is the eternal past, where dwell only the Members of the Godhead – the Father, the Word and the Spirit. The Word, an uncreated Being, could only dwell as human through the Incarnation. John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” I do not appreciate the English translation – ‘made’ – of John 1:14, which is ginomai (ghin’-om-ahee): ‘to become, i.e. to come into existence, begin to be.’ The choice of the translators’ use of the verb ‘made’, of this translation tends to portray the ‘WORD’ of God as an object of creationism.
The Spirit abides forever
Getting born again is a conscious effort on the part of an individual. Get born again. Say this sinner’s prayer.
“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
