I Will Give You Rest (Revisited) Part 2
Water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life
(…continues from part 1…)
2) When He told the Samaritan woman at the well, “…but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14); the woman was aghast and would have seen Him as a crazy fraud. But, because she wanted salvation, she patiently listened, and she was greatly blessed with the rest from the Most High. Without Jesus and the Holy Spirit no one can approach the Father in worship. Jesus revealed this to the woman when He told her, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). God the Father cannot be worshipped without the Holy Spirit and Jesus, the Truth!
How does “believeth on” Him make Him God? Believeth is grammatically a habitual act. The preposition ‘on’, eis (ice), is actually ‘in’ or ‘into’. ‘Believing on’ Jesus means that your faith and trust must have location in Jesus. This belief, scripturally, means that you trust Jesus to save you from your annihilating sinful nature. Only God, the Creator, offers spiritual salvation; and trusting Jesus Christ to thus save you makes Him your Creator: for who should be in possession of parts for repair if not the original Manufacturer, Christ the Creator?
John 16:33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Let me show you something here. Jesus says, “…that In ME ye might have peace”, where the preposition ‘in’, en (en), means: ‘by, with etc. denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), that is, a relation of rest.’ The word ‘have’ is echō (ekh’-o): ‘to hold (used in very various applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession, ability, contiguity, relation or condition).’ Eirēnē (i-ray’-nay) is the Greek for ‘peace’, meaning: ‘state of national tranquility. Exemption from the rage and havoc of war; Peace between individuals, i.e. harmony, concord; Security, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous); Of the Messiah’s peace.’ The locational reality of the possibility of this peace is found only in Jesus. This is the divine peace that passes all understanding.
Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” These verses of twenty-eighth and the twenty-ninth altogether offers a perfect scrutation of the hypostatic union called Jesus Christ. While the twenty-eighth points indubitably to His Deity, the twenty-ninth is divulgation of His humanity. Jesus, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty, emptied Himself of Deity and dwelt among us in the Adamic fashion, came to mankind in lowly of heart that He might win souls into the Kingdom, enjoins us to take His ‘yoke’ zugos (dzoo-gos’): ‘(to join, especially by a “yoke”); a coupling, that is, (figuratively) servitude (a law or obligation);’ which is quite different from the rabbinical religious servitude. Jesus, appearing as a man, and no doubt altogether God, publishes the new religion of God’s Kingdom. “Get yourselves yoked together with Me: for I am the Way, the Truth and the Life to eternality of rest;” is all Jesus Christ is revealing to man that He came to save. If He, as one dwelling in the habiliments of humanity, could live to please God, every serious person who truly wants salvation will succeed if He would follow in total subjection to Jesus, the Divine Author of the soteriology.
Psalm 94:13 “That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.” The truth here is that, those who patiently get yoked together with Jesus, through all adversities, will, on account of having come to Jesus in response to Matthew 11:28, be graced with divine coddle till the enemy will be trampled upon by the judgment feet of God. Our Lord’s tender solicitude for the happiness of such as will heed command of, “Come hither!” is borne out of God’s declaration of John 3:16 love-letter. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. He is the same Shepherd of Psalms 80 and 23. He will not abandon any for whatever reason. Does the Scripture not teach that God is wholly love?
Isaiah 11:10 “And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.” This verse takes one back to the first verse which mentions the springing of a rod or ‘twig’ – as the Hebrew expresses – from Jesse or Davidic Majesty. This is a vaticination of the eventual emergence of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus. His stand is perpetual. The salvation, which is first to the Jews will be made available to Gentiles, who will diligently ‘seek’ [which is the Hebraic dârash (daw-rash’)] Jesus as the last and only resort with care and much enquiry and fall before Him in true worship that they might find eternal rest. Amen.
He is the Author of salvation
Jesus will give you rest only if you will receive His life. Get born again. Say this simple prayer:
“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
