KING, SAVIOUR AND PRIEST (4)

4)            When He performed the substitutionary death for Adamic elevation, and because His sacrificial death cannot be repeated, He must assume the office of the High Priest, making sure that not one of the redeemed can be plucked from His hand soteriologically speaking. Psalm 110:4 “The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” Jesus, the ‘Adown (aw-done’) which means: ‘sovereign (i.e. controller, human or divine)’, Who is the second ‘Lord’ of Psalm 110:1, is our Priest forever. Hebrews 2:17 “Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.” His priesthood is that of the incarnate God, Who had to go through a tutelage, so to speak, on how to represent humanity. It was important for God to say, “Let us make Adam in our image, after our likeness:” the image being the Divine personality of the Lord from heaven (John 3:13; 14:9; 2Cor 4:4-6). The classic splitting image phenomenon between the Father and the Son has an exquisite capture in Colossians 1:13-15 13) “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14) In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15) Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” where the word ‘image’ is eikon (ei-kōn’): ‘1. a likeness. 2. (literally) statue, profile.3. (figuratively) representation, resemblance.’

Much more classic in ponderosity is Hebrews 1:1-3; the third verse reads, “Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” and the Greek for ‘express image’ is charakter (cha-rak-teer’): ‘1. an engraver (the tool or the person). 2. (by implication) an engraving. 3. (hence) a “character,” the figure stamped. 4. (by extension) an exact copy.’ What does the Greek χαρακτήρ, with the transliteration charakter prove of the visage of the Son of God? The face of Jesus Christ is ‘an exact copy’ of the Eternal Father, ever seated on the empyrean throne. This enables us to have perfect understanding of Philippians 2:6 “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:” which has the Greek morphe (mor-fee’) for the English ‘form’ meaning not only: ‘form but (intrinsically) fundamental nature.’ Jesus does not only look just as the Father, He, intrinsically, is, fundamentally, of the Divine nature.

Hebrews 3:1 “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;” of Whom our ‘acknowledgement’ (homologia the Greek for ‘profession’) raises Him above the great Moses and John the Baptist. And how is that so? Jesus is the Builder of the dwelling, which is the holy worshipping family of God. Who has more honour, the Builder or the house, is it not the Author of redemption of the house? Do we not possess the understanding that the true Builder is indubitably the LORD God? Jesus is the Builder. Selah!

Spiritually speaking, Jesus, and none other, holds the tripartite offices of the King, Saviour and the High Priest of the redeemed body of Christ who will live like kings and priests to the glorification of the Most High. Can there be another High Priest other than Jesus? Hebrews 4:14-15 “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15) For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” Can history of the universe point to any other person who did tread upon this terra firma for decades and committing not a smidgeon of sin? Jesus passed the test on perfection of righteousness. He is not only the best but the only One Who can stand and sit in the heavenly assizes as our High Priest.

Hebrews 5:1-10 “For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 2) Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. 3) And by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins. 4)And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron. 5) So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.6) As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. 7) Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8) Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9) And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 10) Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.”
