GOD DOES THINGS IN STYLE (Three)

3)            Let us take a look at Moses: his birth; call to prophethood; and leadership. Everybody who was acquainted with the adoption of Moses knew of certainty he was a Hebrew whose parents had done everything possible to hide his existence which called for instant death. In the lavishly furnished palace of the Pharaoh, where there is abundance of wealth, God planted Pharaoh’s own sister, destitute of the fruit of the womb. This baby must die but God-directed rolled tears were all she had to see to decide that in her heart, “This baby is the answer to my infecundity.” Moses, like Joseph of old, got positioned closer to the Pharaoh’s palace. Moses made the mistake that got him detached from Pharaoh but that did not hinder his prophetic office. The phenomenal hot fire burnt unheeded from within the bush, yet, the plant remained unconsumed by the conflagratory essence. There Yahweh called Moses to the vatical office, God, speaking to him face to face.

The first reason why God would commune with His prophet thus is that He is a consuming fire, captured in Deuteronomy 4:2, 9:3 and confirmed through Apostle Paul in Hebrews 12:29. As fiery God’s judgment is towards wickedness of disobedience, He will walk in the midst of contumacious Israel but His anger will not destroy Israel, because of His covenant keeping beneficence. Third reason is to get hold of Moses’ attention. When God decided to punish the recalcitrance of Egypt, this is what we read in the Bible, “Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail” (Exodus 9:26). The LORD had told Moses in Exodus 8:22 “And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth” (Exodus 9:4; Exodus 9:6; Exodus 9:26; Exodus 10:23; Exodus 11:6). The ten plagues (water turning to blood that ravaged the land for seven days; frogs; dust turning to lice; swarms of flies; grievous murrain (i.e. a very contagious disease among cattle); boils; hailstones; locusts; darkness over the Egypt; death of all Egyptian firstborn) were never experienced in Goshen occupation of the children of Israel; only Pharaoh’s Egypt received the destruction of Divine indignation.

Too bad it was that Pharaoh and his diviners could not apprehend that the number ten meant trials. Before the end of the ten plagues, Egypt should have given in to Jehovah’s request; unfortunately Pharaoh failed. I believe one of the reasons why God chose to direct Israel through a much longer route was to prove His Almighty point. Did it not look like the end of Israeli victory over Egypt when they suddenly had their backs against the cul-de-sac (the Red sea)? As the faithless Israelites scurry left and to the right like caged rodents, I see the LORD God seated in mirthful muse, knowing fully well that as the covenant keeping Jehovah, Israel is quite safe.

God could have made the entire nation disappear before Pharaoh’s gaze and appear on the other side of the Red Sea. He did not do that. He wanted them to have something to tell generations to come. God made a way where there seemed not: they were treated with the epochal phenomenality of treading upon the white sand under the belly of the Red Sea. The sea water stood at attention and serving as the biggest aquarium in history as they marched on in victorious style! Just imagine about two point five million people walking to the Promised Land for four decades and of their footwear and raiment the Bible has this to report in Deuteronomy 29:5 “And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.” This is quite remarkable, ponderous, unbelievable miraculous Divine walk with Israel. This is not magic; God took it upon Himself to see to the welfare of people under His covenant.

The position of Pharaoh (emperor of world superpower) when Israel occupied Egypt typifies the global rulership of the Antichrist. When God decides to pour His wrath upon the earth, the Christians, His body on the terra firma, will not participate in the Divine unleashed ire. Unlike the Pharaoh, who is not the ultimate man of perdition, the son of Lucifer, Israel could live with his evil representative on the earth. One of the reasons God showed Moses the burning bush that was not consumed was to make it known to Moses that when He eventually unleashed His anger on Egypt, Israel will see the fire of Divine indignation but it would not consume His sworn people. In the Deuteronomy 4:24; 9:3 and Hebrews 12:29, the LORD our God is a consuming conflagration. But when the end of time comes, since two captains cannot exist on a ship, and because God will not allow Christianity to suffer from the nefarious intents of Lucifer, the grand style of divine resolution is the rapture. “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!”
