2)            Samson, like millions of men, cannot do without having sex. Engaging in sex per se is not sinful. But when it goes against God’s protocol, it becomes an evil deed. Samson’s waywardness strayed him in seeking prostitutes to sleep with. The distinguished Judge of Israel chose, of all women, the heathenism of a woman of Timnath and destructively Delilah, contrary to Deuteronomy 7:3 “Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.” Does the Devil push one into something without an evil purpose? Delilah brought Samson’s office of a Judge to an end, all because Samson, Judge of Israel, who should know better chose to stray from God’s protocolary order of establishment. One millimeter stray away from God’s command leaves one too vulnerable for manipulations of Satanism. Let us look at two women.

Rahab was an influential, high ranking, professional prostitute in the land of Jericho. Her land of operation is of forbidden heathenism. Jericho was a land antagonistic to the ways of Jehovah. Her choice of profession is against the Ten Commandments, the Seventh of which reads, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14). Nâ’aph (naw-af’) – illicit sex – is the Hebrew word for ‘adultery’ which includes fornication. Figuratively, Nâ’aph means apostasy and idolatry. Rahab, from her personality, was totally lost, spiritually. But let us come to an understanding of what became of this woman.

Joshua 2:9-13 9) “And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. 10) For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. 11) And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. 12) Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token: 13) And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.”

Let us come to an observation. Convinced that in Israel is the protective salvation from the Creator, Rahab became a preacher of God’s truth. The name Rachab (raw-chawɓ’) means: ‘proud.’ It takes a one ready to change by knowing that one is on the wrong path and with humbleness of heart, believe that salvation comes from the Word of God. Rahab made a volte-face from what she was known for, and embraced the way of Jehovah. God is truly not a respecter of persons. Matthew 1:5 “And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;” having the genealogy of Jesus traced to Rahab. Jesse is of the tribe of Judah and the father of David.

Rahab was involved in eventual series of births that brought Joseph and Mary together to bring into our world, the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Rahab’s acceptance and obedience to God’s word earned her a history with Jesus Christ, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Following her husband to the idolatrous country of Moab, Naomi lost her husband; she also lost her two sons. Ruth, one of her daughters-in-law, swore to remain with Naomi, who was relocating back to Israel.

What catches my attention is what Ruth said in the Book of Ruth 1:16 “And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:” and that which makes Israel, the people she had made her mind to be hers, tick is the LORD God, Whom she had strongly resolved to worship. Ruth, from that decision, was no longer a Moabite heathen. Her spiritual vagabondism had come to an end. Ruth, an erstwhile vagrant woman, became one of whose wombs produced the genealogical trace that brought about the Emmanuelisation. Should we not be careful not to allow ourselves run diametrically opposite to the will of God?

Getting born again is a conscious effort on the part of an individual. Get born again. Say this sinner’s prayer.

“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
