Covenant Between God And Man (five)

(…continues from part 4…)
5) Hebrews 12:24 “And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.” Encapsulated in this verse are lots of exegetical revelations. Let us start with the subject of this verse: Jesus. Its definition comes from the Hebraic Yehoshua which means: ‘Jehovah is Saviour.’ The word ‘mediator’ is the Greek mesitēs (mes-ee’-tace): ‘One who intervenes between two, either in order to make or restore peace and friendship, or form a compact, or for ratifying a covenant; a go between, that is, (simply) an internunciator, or (by implication) a reconciler (intercessor).’ Neos (neh’-os) is the word for ‘new,’ meaning: ‘recently born, (of persons) youthful, or (of things) fresh; figuratively regenerate.’ Covenant, as already treated, is diathēkē (dee-ath-ay’-kay): ‘properly a disposition, that is, (specifically) a contract (especially a devisory will); a compact; an arrangement.’ In absolute rejection of any physical covenant between God and man, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome incessantly queried, “How, how could you…how could you…how could you?” There is not gainsaying the fact that, as far as heavenly Godhead is concerned, the Lamb of God had been slain in the council of Divine agreement long before Adam’s creation. 1Peter 1:19-20 19) “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” in earthly historicity that saw the event of God and humanity in the solemn covenant.

Yehoshua which is, and which was, and which is to come.
It was important for the Messiah to take on the sobriquet Yehoshua, owing to the redemptive reason for the Incarnation. Of the Three known Members of the Godhead, only One of Them duly undertakes physical connectivity to Divinity with humans. Who did Adam see when he opened his eyes for the first time? Christ, the LORD God of Genesis chapter one, our Creator, the Second Member of the Trinity. Who was heard walking in the cool of evening of Genesis chapter 3? Christ, the LORD God of Genesis. Who did Abraham see, not in a trance or in dream, but in the physicality of Divinity, standing before him, in daylight such that Abraham would conclusively say, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake” (Genesis 18:32)? Maybe you have managed to see that the name ‘Lord’ is not in all capitals, ergo, not Jehovah God; you are in absolute error. The Hebrew for ‘Lord’ is ‘ădônây (ad-o-noy’) with the definition of: ‘title, spoken in place of Yahweh in Jewish display of reverence. An emphatic form of ‘âdôn (aw-done’); the Lord (used as a proper name of God only).’ Abraham stood face to face with the ‘Ădȏnây on terra firma, haggling for the saving grace of the lives of Sodom and Gomorrah!
If you are not yet convinced, let the immediate following verse do the conviction. Genesis 18:33 “And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place.” The LORD God, Jesus Christ, in His pre-incarnate manifestation, made physical appearance to Abraham and Sarah in broad daylight. Can you see the dramatic exeunt of: “And the LORD went his way… and Abraham returned unto his place”? ‘LORD’ of verse 33 is JEHOVAH. Do go back to the verse to have the feel of Divine communicative compact with the will heart of Adamic reality.

Slain before Adamic sin
The same LORD God Who took upon Himself the flesh of humanity did sit among His disciples for the inauguration of the New Covenant. Remember He told them in John 6:56 “He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him”? Only if they knew this One present in their gaze was at once in heaven and very present before them – John 3:13 – is the Omnipresent Jehovah, would they have left Him, knowing that Jesus is the LORD of Sabbath? The Adonai Jesus entered into the physical covenantal transaction with them when He handed them the bread and the wine – elements of the communion. Do they understand what ‘communion’ means? It is the Greek koinonia (koi-nō-niy’-a) meaning: ‘partnership; (literally) participation; (social) fellowship, interaction; and (financial) contribution, benefaction.’ There was joint covenant participation between God and Adamic individualities. As He shared the wine He officially performed the Mosaic sprinkling of blood ritual. His stance of speaking better things than that of Abel’s was not only displayed when He said, “Father forgive them: for they know not what they do,” on the cross; it is the New Covenant that remains ever fresh before the Father, eternally seated on the empyrean throne.
Moses caught the serpent by its tail, the most dangerous part to hold a live snake of mortiferous venom. This victory of Moses over the serpent proved that as dangerous as Lucifer and his Pharaoh were, they would not overcome the prophet of God. The choice of Moses could not have been a reality without the covenant. Had God not told Abraham, 13) “And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; 14) And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance. 15) And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age” (Genesis 15:13-15)? God kept the covenant He had with Abraham. That is the reason for Mosaic success. Amen.
Exodus 4:22 “And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:” how did Israel become God’s son? Was it through the biological modus of the Adamic matrix? No, it was through the covenant God entered into with Abraham, the father of faith, faith that alone ignites gregarious rapport between Divinity and His creature, made in His image and likeness. Praise the LORD!

Get born again by saying this simple prayer.
“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
