JESUS: The WORD Of God (What does it betoken?) Part 3
(Continued from the 2nd part)
3) The grand crescendo of John’s discourse was reached in this 14th verse. “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” While ‘Word’ in Greek is Logos (which signifies a word spoken, is in this context, ‘the speech, eloquence, doctrine, reason, or the faculty of reasoning of God), ‘flesh’ is sarx (sarx): ‘flesh (the soft substance of the living body, which covers the bones and is permeated with blood) of both man and beasts; the body; the body of a man.’
The WORD is the Maker of life
A significant word here is ‘made.’ Going by the Greek interpretation ‘made’ is quite inappropriate. ‘Made’ makes the ‘Word’ to be a created ‘flesh.’ Ginomai (ghin’-om-ahee) is the Greek word. Its definition is: ‘to cause to be (“gen” -erate), that is, (reflexively) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (literally, figuratively, intensively, etc.).’ Ginomai says that the Eternal Word, the Lord from heaven, the Alpha and Omega, Christ Jesus, who is not of the flesh, became one of us! Incredible! Jesus Christ is both God and man at the same time. He is one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man. This is the theologically incredulous hypostatic union! Amen.
It is the spiritual phenomenon that transcends scientific percipience. Every scientific compound must share 100% between them i.e. ratio 70:30, 97:3, 50:50 etc. But in the Incarnation, Jehovah must do it in the supra empirical style of the supernatural. Science understands it not. Faith does. Amen. As the Word, Jesus is the spiritual alimentation. Psalm 105:40 “The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.” Jesus asseverated in the Book of John 6:31-58 how that He is the spiritual nourishment. “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” [John 6:35]. The word ‘life’ is zoe (dzow-ay’) ‘1. life-above i.e. Eternal life 2. epithet of Jesus (John 14). The word ‘never’ is ou me (ou may’) ‘a double negative strengthening the denial, “not at all”.’ It is impossible to give this kind of absolute assurance concerning spiritual satiation. The fact that God has the attribute to perform the impossible makes it so easy to read the asseverative, “he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” from Jesus.
In all the Scripture, no creature is suffered to be believed on, save Jesus. Why? John 3:13 clearly quotes Jesus, “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.” How, please, tell me somebody, can a man visibly be seen on this terra firma, and at the same time be visible to be given divine adoration in the celestial assizes? A conundrum, incontestably gazing at man, so nonplused! “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” [John 3:18]. The epithet “only begotten,” is monogenes (mon-og-en-ace’) ‘only-born, i.e. sole, unique (the only one of the Kind).’ This is what Jesus, the Word of God, betokens!
The Word of God is the Bread of eternal Life
1Corinthians 10:16 says, “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” Paul teaches concerning the Bread from heaven, “For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24) And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. 25) After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 26) For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” [1Cor 11:23-26]. The partaking of this communion ritualism is an absolute latria of Jesus, the True Word of God.
The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit are of same life essence
The Word of God is the eternal life. John 5:26 “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;” meaning that the same eternal life essence found in the Father is attributable to the Son. ‘Life’ in this verse is zoe. In John 10:10, the Bible says, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:28, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” Jesus’ avowal being that, “they shall never perish,” is a pointer to His Deity.Only God can make this eternal declaration, owing to the fact that He alone will maintain that life. Jesus made it, using a personal pronoun, being the Personage of Divinity.
Get born again by saying this simple prayer.
“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
