JESUS: The WORD Of God (What does it betoken?) Part 6

(Continued from the 5th part…)

6)            Too overwhelmed to share the Eternal Truth, Apostle John would not even observe the orthodoxy of the characteristic salutation of an epistle in 1John 1:1-2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; 2) (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;).” The allusion to the ‘handling of the Word of life’ is of John 1:14. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son [1John 5:11]. The spiritual location of eternal life is found nowhere else; in the Person of Jesus alone is the bliss of eternity to be found. Selah!

He that hath the Son hath life; 1John 5:12 further uncovers, and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life is the conclusion.

1John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. The Word of God is both the Eternal Life and the True God. I want to look at four verses to buttress this fact.

It says in the book of Isaiah 9:6, For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. The first sobriquet, ‘Wonderful’ is the Hebraic pele’ (peh’-leh): ‘a miracle.’ Pele’ comes from its root pala’ (paw-law’) ‘1. (properly, literally or figuratively) perhaps to separate, i.e. distinguish 2. (by implication) to be great, difficult, wonderful 3. (causatively) to make great, difficult, wonderful.’

The WORD: in His pre-incarnate manifestation.

The next, ‘Counsellor,’ is ya`ats (yaw-ats’) ‘1. to advise 2. (reflexively) to deliberate or resolve.’ Being the “mighty God” His “Counsellorship” must be eternally of the Divinity. His ‘Fatherhood’ is an ‘Everlasting’ Hebrew `ad (ad) ‘1. (properly) a (peremptory) terminus 2. (by implication) duration, in the sense of advance or perpetuity (substantially as a noun, either with or without a preposition).’ ‘Prince’ is sar (sar) ‘a head person (of any rank or class);’ while ‘peace’ is shalowm (shaw-lome’) (or shalom {shaw-lome’}) meaning : ‘1. Safe 2. (figuratively) well, happy, friendly 3. (abstractly) welfare, i.e. health, prosperity, peace.’ The Word of God is the Ruler of eternal peace.

Safe hand of the Word

Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God [Isaiah 44:6]. Take note that ‘LORD’ is written in capitals and that is I AM THAT I AM, the covenant name of God –Jehovah– to the redeemed. Interestingly, the prophet quotes the Divinity in the description of Himself as “I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.” If truly, beside Him there is no God, what do we make of the declaration of Jesus first in Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.A later declaration is I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” [Rev 22:13]. What is the Divine status difference between the ‘LORD’ of Isaiah 44:6 and the ‘Almighty’ of Revelation 1:8? Selah!

Absolutely a pellucidity

The third Scripture is Isaiah 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. The divine ‘Maker’ is `asah (aw-saw’) ‘to do or make (from existing materials).’ Of whom is it said, All things were made by him; and of whom still, is the scriptural couch, and without him was not any thing made that was made[John 1:3]? Luke 5:34 And he said unto them,  Can ye make the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? Who is the Bridegroom? Jesus. For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ [2Cor 11:2]. Who is the ‘husband’ of espousal? Jesus!

The Maker of all things: The WORD.

And the fourth Scripture is John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. Do you remember 1John 5:20? It reads, And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

The Eternal Father in John 17:3 is the True God. The irrefutability of the Word being the True God in 1John 5:20 is pellucid. The titles of Jesus in Isaiah 9:6 are they essentially Divine? Selah!

Get born again by saying this simple prayer.

“Dear heavenly Father, I come to You now in the name of Jesus Christ. I believe in my heart that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for my sin. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and I receive Him now as my Lord and my Saviour. I give God all the glory. Amen!”
