He Walked On Water (three)

3)            Walking on the water, Jesus simply outdares the law of gravity and successfully engendered a joint participation which was made public during the feeding of the five thousand (excluding men and children). When Jesus blessed the five loaves and two fishes, baked dough and cooked fishes got multiplied as the disciples distributed the victuals: joint participation – Adamic partnership with the Lord in the miraculous feeding. In like manner, He had to involve a man, giving the same ability to Peter, in the representative capacity of Christians; it was a restoration of Adam’s lordship of the world. Lucifer, no doubt, is recognized as the god of this world, but a true member of the mystical body of Christ knows that he has the authority to destroy the evil works of Satan which Jesus displayed at His Ascension. Colossians 2:15 “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” The word ‘spoiled’ is apekduomai (ap-ek-doo’-om-ahee): ‘Wholly put off from one’s self. Despoil, disarm.’

After the crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, the Lord was seen around for forty days before His ascension. As He was ascending heaven the demons working with Lucifer thought they could stop Jesus. What He did to them is here described in the above scripture. The heads of demonic hierarchy, proving their satanic obduracy, attacked Jesus high up in the air on His way to heaven. In their millions they defiantly held on to Jesus. The Lord stripped them from His Person, slamming them and as Roman conquerors would, after winning a war, Jesus marched the subdued principalities and powers of Satanism in His triumphant entry into the heavenly assizes. We Christians understand by faith that all demonic entities and their nefarious acts are under our feet. We tread on them: for the Lord Jesus has perfected our spiritual victory over the enemy.

Now, before the Divine stride on water, Jesus must be involved with five loaves. Loaves involvement is the fulfillment of Isaiah 9:6 where the birth of the child prognosticates the humanity of Christ, the Lord from heaven. He must share flesh with Adam to advance the legality of the salvation of man. The loaf represents His body. Five speaks of grace. Salvation must be by grace because the fallen Adamic nature is incapable of engendering what must last for all eternality. Only God can preserve the salvation of man fallen. It takes only Divine finance to establish security of the believer in the finished work of the cross, which cannot be guaranteed by man’s own righteousness. Jesus probably waited for a time when the number five must be brought to Him, the Personage of grace: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11), through the Incarnation. Two is the number of witness and of testimony, wherefore, it was apropos for the fishes to be two in order to be in conformity to Divine plan.

The spiritual conceptualization of two fishes takes one back to the great Deluge. Apart from the eight souls and the animals inside the ark Noah built, the only living beings that did not taste death outside the ark are the fishes of the global body of water. Their spared lives is indicative of the probability of being saved. The focal object of Divine soteriology is Adam. Adam, being flesh, if, according to Divine protocol he must be saved, the totem of the possibility of receiving salvation is the fish. It takes two to engender salvation: the Saviour (God) and the intelligent object of salvation (Adam). Two being the numerology for witness and of testimony, it will look somewhat meaningless to Divine plan if the two fishes were not put in the hands of Jesus, the Christ. Remember what He told Peter and Andrew, when they first met, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Hallelujah!

The incarnation of the Christ points to the facticity of Emmanuel. Jesus remains the only testificaction that God became a man for the soteriological actuation. Add up five and two and you have seven, the number of perfection. Jesus is the only man who lived the life of Adamic perfection on this earth. Not even a fraction of sin was committed by Jesus Christ. Seven speaks of the perfect Jehovah: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). He must be perfect to save mankind from his sinful nature. The perfection of sanguineous Golgotha cross is seen in the nature of its eternality. The Messiah’s work of salvation made it possible to walk perfectly side by the side of the LORD God, Who has adorned the born again Christian with the righteousness of Jesus. Philippians 3:9 “And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:” and another Scripture reads, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2Corinthians 5:21).
