He Walked On Water (one)

1)            I am sure so many people, who have read and heard it, still do not know why Jesus walked on water. Was it a mere exploitative demonstration of exhibitionism? It, definitely, could not have been a mischievous prank or a magi’s trick. One thing I have discovered, over the years, about God, is His laconism. Anyone who will not be caught in yakety-yak fashion of verbosity, should not be expected to be paying attention to frivolities, and wherefore Jesus Christ could not have walked on water à la unnecessary exhibitionistic stunt. For the purpose of Adamic acceptance of His Lordship over all circumstances, problems and beings He must do the unthinkable.

Another important reason for this phenomenal tread was to manifest Adamic elevation which establishes the facticity of Psalm 115:16 “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.” The word ‘men’ is not ‘ı̂ysh (eesh): ‘male (in contrast to woman, female); husband (family head).’ It is not ba‛al (bah’-al): ‘owner, husband, lord.’ This ‘men’ is not the English for the Hebraic geber (gheh’-ber): ‘strong man, warrior (emphasizing strength or ability to fight);’ neither is it zâkâr (zaw-kawr’): ‘male (of humans and animals) (noun masculine).’ The true Hebrew word for ‘men’ of this verse is the generic ‘âdâm (aw-dawm’): ‘from ruddy, that is, a human being (an individual or the species, mankind, etc.).’ This topic reveals also God’s phenomenal elevation of Adam.

Now, let us go through scriptural contextualization that led to this phenomenon. In the fourteenth chapter of Matthew Jesus Christ miraculously fed about eighteen thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fishes. There are two reasons for using bread. First is the fact that He will give His sinless Body as a propitiation for our sinfulness, in order to elevate the fallen Adamic nature. The other reason is that bread is a product of the land. As the high and lofty LORD God of the Old Testament, His Divine ownership of the vastness of the atmospheric height is never in question. Prove to the world, He must, of His Lordship of the land and the sea. The land that produces bread must yield to His command; and as He gave the loaf, wheat, from every source, kneaded itself into baked bread – and this is not magic – until “And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full” (Matthew 14:20).

It must be five loaves because salvation is by the grace of God. You have to eat Him, the Bread from heaven, to live successfully and be spiritually alive, ergo, when He was born, it was a necessity for Mary, His vehicular entity of the Incarnation, to place the Ancient of days, Who became the Infant of days in a manger – holding Jesus out for spiritual consumption for anyone who wishes to. It was the same grace that accounted for the possibility of granting Moses’ request: “Shew me Thy glory” of Exodus 33:18. And if one should ask, “Where is the grace that granted the request?” in Exodus 33:22, “And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:” hides the grace in the ‘hand’ of Divinity. The ‘hand’ which in Hebrew is kaph (kaf) with the definition: ‘palm of the hand, hollow or flat of the hand, figuratively, power;’ is not without the jut of a thumb and four fingers which addition comes to five: the amazing grace that settles terms and conditions of the soteriology.

After the feeding of the five thousand, we read in the Book of Matthew chapter 14 verse 22 and the 24th, “And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. 24) But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.” After the fall of Adam, the earth was rendered a chaotic globe: the Devil had taken over the rulership of the world. It was necessary for the water go through chaotic disturbance to prove His indubitable imperium all in all.

Matthew14:25 “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.” The ‘fourth watch’ of the night, according to Jewish people begins from three AM to 6AM. It must be the very dark period, of 3 to 4 o’clock after midnight, when it was difficult to recognize Jesus for it says, “And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear” (Matthew 14:26). Taking phenomenal strides on a turbulent sea, by an entity Who is both God and man, is all one needs to know that this One is the LORD God of creation. When Peter recognized the voice of his Lord, the Bible says, “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus” (Matthew 14:28-29).
